PRETERM LABOR So, at 31 1/2 weeks, I am sitting in a hospital bed for preterm labor. I really thought everything was going great, but then this craziness. I will be here for a couple days at least. Hopefully, the doctors and nurses can get the ball STOPPED so Priya can bake a little (or a lot) longer.

SOMEONE IS LOOKING A LOT LIKE HER DADDY!

I think give her two weeks, and she'll match her dad's birth weight when he was term.  He was a small thing (under 6 pounds). Our Priya...currently on track for well over 9 lbs if she reaches term (taking after her cousin Mac).  We'll see how it all pans out in the end.  {:0)

30 WEEKS

We are 30 1/2 weeks today!  Priya had an ultrasound today.  She is weighting 4 lb 6 oz.  The amniotic fluid dropped by 5 cm, so we are not at 30 cm.  If we drop another 6 cm or so, we will be in the upper range of normal.  {:0)  Contractions are down to 6/hour, which is the lowest they've been since I can remember!  I gained my pound back and found my way back into the good graces of my nurse practitioner.  Unfortunately, I have to start taking a medication before my evening meals that will stimulate my pancreas to make more insulin.  Kind of bummed to be on another medication, but I guess that's how it goes sometimes.  Overall, the appointment was a good one.  Here we are at 30 weeks...

"O" SO SMALL

Priya and I might be getting bigger, but it appears that her "O" is getting smaller!  Smaller O's mean faster and simpler closures!

29 WEEKS

So, my sweet girl is 29 weeks, and I really do want her to stay in and "bake" as long as possible so she can be her healthiest little self, but OH MY GOODNESS...I am so excited to meet her!  I can stare at her pictures and touch her clothes and blankets every day and not get enough.  I don't care that she makes me EXTREMELY uncomfortable at night and that I am running on very little sleep; I love her!!

Priya is almost 4 lbs!  My amniotic fluid has dropped a whopping 5 cm, bringing it down to 35 cm!  I lost a pound, which flipped out my nurse practitioner  so I got a bit of a lecture. Will be adding some more fat to the diet this week.

I just want to say that I am so thankful my little girl only has an omphalocele and Beckwith Wiedemann Syndrome.  I feel very lucky.  What seemed so devastating and unlucky at first just isn't so bad.  While everyone wants to have the healthiest kiddo possible, it could be so much worse than a small O and BWS.  And look at the cute little person we get to meet soon...so, so thankful to be her mom.

FEISTY GIRL

Tonight, Priya had her foot outstretched and pressing hard near my rib.  So, I put my hand on her foot and tapped it, telling her, "I got you!"  She then kicked me back really hard, so I guess in the end she got ME!  So, I see we have a feisty girl on our hands.  This should come in handy after birth when she has to go through all her medical craziness.  I am taking it as a great sign that she will battle through it and come out on top, our feisty girl!

I am getting really excited to meet this little girl of ours, but I have to say nights like tonight are really enjoyable too, and I am just relishing these last few weeks/months(?) that Mike and I have with just the two of us.  We went to a nice dinner and a walk downtown.  The night was a beautiful one, weather was awesome, food was tasty, my blood sugar tested normal (yay, because I thought my mocha would surely send me over the edge), and the conversation was great.  We then tried to go to a local music venue to hear a band, but we were too late to hear the one we went to listen to, so we dropped by Whole Foods to pick up some groceries for potluck tomorrow night and came home. It was maybe nothing out of the ordinary, but such a good, sweet night.  We have a good life.

OOH, THOSE DARN CALL-BACKS

I got a call from my nurse practitioner today that my blood glucose levels came back quite elevated, putting me in the diagnostic range for gestational diabetes.  So, off I went to the doctor's office again to pick up my meter and to get more labs.  Tomorrow I will start checking my blood sugar four times a day.  So, BWS or gestational diabetes, one way or another, I guess I am meant to have a big kiddo.

28 WEEK CHECK

Well, Priya is still doing well.  I was surprised to find that her fluid is still increasing (now 40 cm), which is a bummer.  However, other than getting ridiculously low amount of sleep and now a nasty cold, I have been feeling pretty good. My contractions have been under control this week and uterine pressure hasn't bothered me.

Sunday, January 6, 2013

I've been washing and putting away Priya's crib sheets, blankets, and sleepers.  It makes me so anxious to meet her.  I want her to stay in until she is term, but I am longing to hold her in my arms and meet her face to face too.  It is hard to believe I've made it to my third trimester.  It won't be long...

ALMOST 3 POUNDS!

Priya got measured today, 2 pounds 14 ounces!  3 more ounces, and she will surpass my birth weight (at 32 weeks).  My amniotic fluid is creeping up again, 38-39 cm.  No amnio to drain fluid planned at this point, as things still seem to be going okay.  I have lots of painless contractions, usually around 14/hour during the day and 33/hour in the evenings.  I am not sure why they are so crazy in the evenings.  The nurse practitioner didn't like hearing those numbers, but I am already on Procardia and my cervix seems to be holding in there (and I am not terribly uncomfortable), so not much to do except hope that Priya keeps liking her current living environment.
